Specialist Nursery Flood Restoration Without Any Disruption

We were instructed to investigate the extent of flood damage at a nursery, mitigate further loss and develop a drying solution that would allow the business to remain fully operational.

Major Flood Damage Within the Baby Nursery

The nursery operates from a detached 1950s bungalow that has been converted and extended for childcare use. Major flooding affected the property and surrounding area during the early hours, leaving standing water inside for approximately three hours. The baby nursery was particularly affected.

Our moisture mapping identified elevated moisture within the insulated floor slab, confirming that water had entered the insulation layer beneath the floor.

Discreet Injection Drying for an Operational Nursery

To remove the trapped moisture, we developed a bespoke specialist drying solution using an injection drying system.

As the baby nursery needed to remain in use, we selected drying equipment for its low audible output and enclosed it within a discreet tented area beside the window.

Moisture-laden air was extracted through a hose connected to a sacrificial board installed within the uPVC window. Protective flooring was also fitted throughout the baby nursery, allowing staff and infants to use the area safely and without disturbance.

Nursery Flood Drying Without Business Closure

Our carefully controlled drying system allowed the nursery to reopen the following day.

The project achieved:

  • No business closure or operational disruption
  • Continued safe use of the baby nursery
  • Minimal noise from the drying equipment
  • Protection of the existing floor finishes
  • Effective drying beneath the insulated floor slab
  • Infants able to sleep while drying continued

This project demonstrates how our tailored approach to flood and water damage restoration can restore affected buildings while protecting business continuity.

Mould on surfaces tends to emit a pattern that aids understanding “why there and not over there”? Spores are in the air all the time and they need a stable period to settle and develop hence, opening windows and doors across the property for a short time serves to break the cycle and reduce the outbreak potential.

Tip: Air ‘circulates’ a room with corners being less mobile hence spores tend to reside where its cooler and less disturbed leading to the patterns witnessed. Changing the air during the winter can enable drier air to enter and replace the wetter internal air.
