Water Damage Restoration Following an Energy Provider Claim in Lincoln

Our team attended a residential property in Lincoln following a claim from a leading energy provider after a cold-water mains feed T-joint failed, causing significant water damage across multiple areas of the home.

The escape of water saturated the landing and stair carpets before migrating into the lounge below, affecting the ceiling, walls and floor. With several materials impacted and moisture present across more than one level of the property, the priority was to remove damaged finishes, expose the affected structure and begin controlled drying as quickly as possible.

Removing Saturated Carpets and Exposing Wet Sub-Floors

On arrival, our technician assessed the extent of the water damage across the landing, stairs and lounge.

The carpets on the landing and stairs had become heavily saturated and developed an unpleasant smell, meaning they were no longer suitable to remain in place. Our technician carefully removed and disposed of the affected carpets, allowing the wet sub-floors beneath to be fully exposed.

Removing saturated floor coverings is an important part of the restoration process because trapped moisture can prevent underlying materials from drying effectively and may contribute to further deterioration if left untreated.

Careful Removal of Laminate Flooring

Water had also migrated into the lounge below, where the flooring, walls and ceiling had been affected.

The laminate flooring was carefully uplifted to expose the damp areas beneath while avoiding unnecessary damage to the surrounding skirting boards. By taking a controlled approach, the skirting could remain in place rather than requiring additional removal and replacement.

This helped provide access to the affected floor while minimising disruption to parts of the property that could still be retained.

Sanitising the Affected Areas

Once the saturated carpets and laminate flooring had been removed, the exposed areas were thoroughly sanitised.

Following an escape of water, cleaning and sanitisation are important steps in preparing the property for drying, particularly where wet materials have been in place for a period of time or have developed unpleasant odours.

With the affected surfaces exposed and treated, the property was ready for the drying phase.

Focused Drying Completed Within 14 Days

Specialist drying equipment was installed throughout the affected areas to target the remaining moisture within the building materials.

The drying process was carefully focused on the landing, stairs and lounge, including the areas affected within the ceiling, walls, floor and sub-floor structure.

After 14 days of controlled drying, the affected areas were successfully dried, allowing the property to move forward to the next stage of reinstatement.

Successful Water Damage Drying and Restoration in Lincoln

The completed works successfully removed the saturated and odorous floor coverings, exposed the affected sub-floors, protected the existing skirting where possible and sanitised the areas before specialist drying began.

By combining careful strip-out work with focused drying equipment, our technician was able to successfully dry the affected parts of the property within 14 days.

This type of controlled restoration helps reduce unnecessary replacement, protects unaffected materials and ensures moisture is properly addressed before repairs and reinstatement begin.

Mould on surfaces tends to emit a pattern that aids understanding “why there and not over there”? Spores are in the air all the time and they need a stable period to settle and develop hence, opening windows and doors across the property for a short time serves to break the cycle and reduce the outbreak potential.

Tip: Air ‘circulates’ a room with corners being less mobile hence spores tend to reside where its cooler and less disturbed leading to the patterns witnessed. Changing the air during the winter can enable drier air to enter and replace the wetter internal air.
